The Haifu System
Treatment Process
Foundation for complete ablation of a target tumor in patients using the Haifu System
3-D Conformal Treatment
The Haifu System uses real-time ultrasound imaging to target and monitor the treatment procedure. A planning session is performed to identify the target tumour volume, which is subsequently divided into parallel slices. The entire volume of the target tumour can be treated slice by slice, based on the position and depth of the target. This whole procedure is called '3-D conformal treatment'.
Schematic diagram showing the principle of 3-D conformal treatment used in the Haifu System

Illustration of 3-D HIFU conformal treatment shows coagulation necrosis induced by the Haifu System in ox liver in vitro: One-pulse necrosis induced by a single exposure of HIFU; a scanning-track necrosis induced by a scanning track exposure of HIFU' slice-necrosis induced by multiple scanning-track exposures of HIFU; a volume-necrosis induced by multiple-slice exposure of HIFU.
