The Haifu System
The HAIFU System
As the first widely used equipment for extracorporeal tumour treatment with therapeutic ultrasound, the HAIFU system is a world–leading technology for the non-invasive treatment of tumours.
The Haifu System enables treatment of solid tumours using principles of surgical oncology. 3-D conformal technology allows ablation of both benign and malignant tumours. Benign tumours may be treated up to their margin, whereas malignant tumours are targeted to include specific volume of normal surrounding tissue, to ensure complete ablation.
The on-board software package allows the physician to see and capture images of the target tumour before integrating them with the therapy control system. This unique patented synthesis of programming and engineering allows the operator to image and treat from a single console, non-invasively ablating soft tissue tumours.
Features of the Haifu System include:- Imaging
Real-time diagnostic ultrasound imaging is used for assessing the target tumour and planning the volume selected for ablation. During treatment the device monitors the therapeutic procedure and gives the user feedback on treatment efficacy. - Accuracy
The energy generated at the acoustic focus can rapidly induce coagulation necrosis in that volume, with no damage to surrounding or overlying tissue. The margin between treated and untreated tissue may be as narrow as 6 to 10 cells wide. - Freedom of motion
The system gantry allows the treatment head six degrees of freedom both linearly along and rotationally about three orthogonal axes during both planning and therapy. This electronically controlled movement is essential to allow treatment of different organ systems in the body. - Thoroughness
The treatment planning software provided by the Haifu System enables physicians to confidently target the entire volume necessary for the treatment of soft-tissue tumours. There is no upper limit on the volume of tissue which may be targeted. - Control
Real-time imaging allows the operator visual feedback during the course of the treatment. Therapy may therefore be tailored to suit the individual needs of each patient, on a case-by-case basis.
